My Book Dilemma

So I joined a book club. (I mean a wine drinking club.) And I love it! I don't read very quickly. Actually, let me say I never sit down to read a book and when I do it puts me to sleep. BUT I love to read. So our next book is Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time and I am so excited to read it! This is where my green journey begins...

I head over to FreeCycle, one woman has it but is reading it and no one else answers my request. I try Paperback Swap, nope not there. I try Swaptree, not to be found. Half Price Books (used book store near me), nada. I break down and look at Amazon and Target. Now, do I buy it used and worry about the waste in packing, money (about $10 with shipping) and gas to get it to me. Or do I shop Target and buy it for $8.25 new? I would drive there but I would also buy some necessities while there. Argh! Sometimes being green is complicated. Or should I even worry?

And then I forgot...I took a vow to buy nothing this month!

Maybe I will just wait until May.

Allison -

You didn't mention trying to borrow it from the local library. Have you thought about that? Or how about downloading the audio version (just checked iTunes has it for $18.95 - I know $10 more expensive!) Also, try sending out a mass e-mail to all of your nearby friends. You never know who may have it and is willing to lend it.

Yes, trying to do the green thing sometimes is complicated because we have gotten so used to having whatever we want whenever we want. I'm a huge bibliophile and cutting back on buying new books over the past year has been a deliberate and sometimes pout inducing choice.

I love that you admitted your book club is really a wine drinking club. I could really go for that type of book club!

Thanks for the idea.
I just checked the library and, of course, they are all checked out. Argh!
You know I rarely get books at the library for me because I read so slow I have to recheck the book 3 times. Ha Ha. But I have to read this one by May 21st so I will put one on hold.
